Cappuccino Swirls

I have been trying to branch out in the baking department recently.  Given that I have a lot less time on my hands with two littlies, baking is somehow easier to get round to than sewing and knitting (and has more instant results... OK, and is also rather delicious for my rather increased breastfeeding appetite!).

I'd tried these biscuits before, but made them again with a friend yesterday, and they are absolutely amazing.

They are again from The New Cookie Book, but there is a blog post here with the recipe on (except in the post she recommends doubling the quantities of sugar, which I didn't, and to complete it, I flicked both white and dark chocolate over the top).

The one problem is that I can't seem to stop eating them, and soon I'll have to make another batch!

On a totally unrelated note, I listened to a very interesting discussion on Radio 4's Woman's Hour yesterday on fashion, and the way we consume it in today's society.  Some pertinent points were made, though it was perhaps not chaired in the best possible way (if you listen, the discussion starts about 15/20 mins into the programme).  Have a listen- it certainly makes you think.

Enjoy your Thursday. Perhaps I'll have another biscuit...!

Peonies

We have some peonies in our front garden- aren't they gorgeous?

Perfect to go in a vase to brighten up the kitchen.

How's your week going?

Cookies and Needlework

I've been meaning to post for a while.  Really I have.  Life seems to fly by rather fast when the days (and nights) are taken up with two little people and running a house.  I'm not complaining.  Things are rather lovely, and nothing quite beats getting to know a new little person, but I have missed blogging and having extended crafting time.

If I'm honest, I've also struggled a little for inspiration, but I'm gradually starting to have a few ideas once more...

I have still been taking photos though, and mentally composing blog posts that I store away in my head for some time when I have a few minutes to sit down and actually type them.  So. Instead of splurging all of the different craft, cooking and general things of interest that I've noted in one post, I will try and write a series of short ones.  Kind of a discipline, to get back into the habit.

So, for today, I'll mention a delicious batch of cookies I baked last night from The Cookie Book.  Triple chocolate cookies- excellent for filling that chocolate-sized hole in ones tummy...

They are super easy and only take about 10-15 minutes to bake.

The other thing I want to mention in this post is a fabulous gift I was given by a very Thoughtful Friend.  Knowing of my love of things crafty, as part of a beautifully-wrapped (in Laura Ashley wallpaper with a raffia bow!) package of gifts for my new(ish) arrival lay this wonderful book...

What a find!  I can't find a publishing date, but it is a fabulous encyclopedia full of everything you could ever need to know about needlework.  It even has pages which explain the best posture to sit in whilst sewing!  I've loved poring over this these past few days, and looking at the intricate designs held within.

Thanks Sarah!

I hope you are all well, and enjoying your Saturday.
