Hoarding

I am a bit of a hoarder if I'm honest.  Particularly when it comes to craft items.  I'm always of the opinion that things might just come in useful for a craft project one of these days.

The other evening I sat down to do some card making, as I'd run my stash right down, and do always like to give hand made cards if possible.  I had some old books with some nice prints and pictures in, and had been meaning for ages to actually cut them out and make use of them.  There are some real treasures- look at some of these...

So. I had a lovely relaxing time making some new cards, and now have a replenished supply.

I also had some photos I'd taken a while back that I thought would also make nice cards.  Most of them were taken in Cornwall, one of my favourite places, and I love the brooding clouds in some of them.

Very satisfying.
I got given some beautiful flowers today.  Does anyone know what they are called? They look a bit like pink poppies. I love them.

Little things (part 2)

This weekend has been mostly spent in the garden, making the most of the gorgeous weather.
E has been discovering the wonders of spring flowers

And ladybirds.

I have been enjoying sitting in the sun, watching my family play happily, and continuing with my knitting, hoping that I will get it finished by E's birthday next week!

Flowers

There's something fabulous about flowers isn't there? Having a little vase of them brings a ray of sunshine into the house.

Yesterday, on a little jaunt into a nearby town, I saw this beautiful bunch of anenomes sitting outside the flower shop.  They look a little wild, and they caught my fancy!

They made me want to draw flowers, and do some floral-themed stitching...

Flowers are springing up everywhere- yesterday E and I went for a walk and said hello to all of the lovely Daffodils and Narcissi.  Fabulous splashes of yellow on a slightly grey and windy day.

Today, with my Mum we visited a lovely garden centre, and I bought a few herbs so that I could start a little window herb-garden.  I was particularly excited by the lavender (one of my absolute favourite smells!) and the little alpine strawberry plant- I love the idea of growing my own little strawberries!

I leave you with a picture that makes me smile so much- the sight that greeted me when I asked my little 'un to lie down on the changing mat for a nappy-change!

As a history teacher, I'm so proud! (I should qualify that there were several pages on steam trains inside that he was particularly taken by).

Mud and Crafts.

I laughed when I read Fay's blog post a few days back, documenting Flo's taste of mud in the garden.  E is a big fan of mud.  His current favourite thing to do in the garden (when not chasing or playing ball with the cat) is to dig for worms.  Failing that he will aim to mix mud and water in whatever suitable container he can find, and drink as much of it as possible before being stopped by my husband or myself!  As you can see, today he was rather a state after a short while in the garden.

I am so thankful for our garden though.  I love that he's old enough to be able to play in the garden (and that he enjoys doing it), and that he wants to do it at any given opportunity.  I was raised by parents who were always championing the benefits of fresh air, and I've become one of them myself now!

In our garden we have some beautiful daffodils starting to blow their trumpets.

And the promise of many more to come! (Thank you Mummy for planting last summer whilst I was feeling grotty!)

I made another carrot cake today from the same lovely recipe.  Except this time I added sultanas too.  Good move. It tastes great!

I've been doing a little more on the crochet Granny squares, am progressing on the cabled cardi and am eagerly anticipating an evening of crafting and fun with two good friends. Lovely.
